I am very excited to have come across a book that came highly recommended to Greg by a number of the Heads of Christian Churches in their last WA meeting.
The title is 'Religion for Atheists' by Alain de.Botton and it caught my attention. It is one of those books that comes to you just at the right time in your faith journey. Alain takes a very honest, courageous and intelligent view of the way our society functions or rather doesn't function today with and without religion.
It is answering so many of my questions around the purpose and meaning of church and explains things that we think we already know the answers too but he comes up with a completely different way of seeing the same thing and I hear myself going "aha... Never thought of that!
To my surprise this Atheist writer has a lot to say about the value of our church communities in society and questions if the freedom many of us strive for, is indeed any freedom at all? Not really what I wanted to hear... but I'm teachable!
Greg's reading it too, so we have to take turns.
It's 3pm in the arvo and it's started to rain so I'd better go and help Greg zip up the tent. I hope we get enough of a down pour to wash my car... It is covered in bird poo!
