Arrival at The Stirling Ranges

I noticed over the years that Aussie Tourist Information is never quite what it appears to be, once you get to the destination. I usually try not to read them because it builds up my expectations. I'm learning to expect nothing and then I'm pleasantly surprised.
Not quite Scotland Dad! Think you might be in the wrong country. This is the off peak season and I can see why. Temperatures are still close to 40 degrees so it hot and dry on the 'retreat campsite with a pool' below the ranges.
At one point I nearly felt like turning around and going back to my comfy chair, fridge and air con. I had a toothache which I've noticed comes on bad around 3-4 pm in the last couple days and then completely disappears. Anyway get this picture... we've been traveling the last 5hrs. We get to the hot dry campsite. We have a vast array to choose from because no one is stupid enough to camp here in the mid summer heat. We are warned to avoid one area because the bushes attract loads of mosquitos. I have sweat mingled with insect repellent and suncream pouring off me, I have the tooth ache, flies are trying to get into the corners of my eyes and mouth and one took a liking to my ear which was really annoying, then to top it off this massive horse-fly kept going for my ankles. I just about lost it when the bugger tried to go up my skirt!
I needed to take take a deep breath and put into practice my 'surrender to the present moment' 'accept what is' and deal with it! So I washed my face and re-applied the fly repellent. I sprayed my hat and some long cotton pants with insect surface spray and put them on. Took some panadol for the tooth and helped set up our campsite.
The only cafe down the road was closed for NewYear and there is a fire ban so we had a very interesting concoction of leftovers and once that sun started to go down we were not in such a bad place. We both slept like a baby.
