Injured So Soon (and it wasn't from falling off the couch!)

I started this post 2 weeks ago:

Second Day of 'Couch to 5k' running program

So I had a day rest and took off today in a different direction away from the hospital grounds. This time I had my stretch yoga pants so I was more comfortable. I run on Sun-Tues-Thurs, 3 times a week for 20 mins. It was raining and cold today, so I was waiting for a change but the change wasn't coming so I just went ahead in the rain. It was beautiful once I warmed up.

Three things I like about running

1. I feel stronger and more powerful, especially when I get to the top of a hill.
2. My skin looks better and my hair
3. Even when it is cold and wet, you feel toasty warm in your body.

One thing I don't like about running

1. The incredible pain in my legs, especially around my right hip and lower back. Feels like I'm carrying a ton of bricks from the waist down.

After the third day my hip and back were so sore I could hardly walk and I decided to take a break until the pain had eased, especially as it was keeping me awake, so while I was visiting interstate I didn't do anything too strenuous. Gradually over the week the pain eased but because it hadn't gone completely I decided to check it out with the Dr. I'm just waiting on x-ray and ultrasound results but the Dr said it doesn't sound like hip bone damage but soft tissue surrounding the joint and affecting the muscles in the back. I think I probably did the most damage to that part of my body over the years I worked as a house cleaner.

Whatever the outcome, I hope that I can still manage to swim or get in and out of a Kayak or something! I'm off the couch and rearing to go...maybe brisk walking and gentle stretching will have to be the regime. At least I can still do InterPlay but that is not exactly aerobic...although it could be!

  1. That's a shame Janet. Did the tests show up anything?

    1. Thanks for asking. Yeah,
it was a shame. The tests showed minimal inflammation to the hip and no bone damage, so that is good. I just have to go easy on it.
Nevertheless my whole right side is still playing up and I can't seem to pinpoint the pain. I didn't want to spend more money but I am going to visit a physiotherapist and see what exercise I can do to strengthen my right lower back and hip.
Meanwhile I know that sitting or leaning over my art desk are killers so I have to keep moving.
I'm walking daily, eating healthy and managing to keep my weight at 78kg. How is your weight? I admire you and your level of fitness. Doesn't come easy but it is worth the grunt hey?.
      love Janet
