Aaagh! Stress! I'm changing dead-lines to 'alive-lines'

Been busy in the studio with these collages for Ellenbrook Gallery in October.

Have re-worked the painting below, boosting up the liturgical colours. The title is 'Alpha and Omega' and I'm entering it into the Metro Church Awards also in October.

Still working on what has turned into a deserted old farm place. I've named it 'Weathered' on the entry form for the Bassendean Mixed Media award in September. Thank God that title still fits!!

I am always looking ahead on the calander to see what competitions and exhibitions are coming up and thinking about what piece I can enter. Often they have not even been birthed yet, so it is like entering a child for a most beautiful baby prize when you have no idea if it is a boy or a girl or if the birth will go to plan.  No wonder I get anxious!

So, I just have to make it up and hope that the title has some connection with the piece and that I am happy with the end result and haven't under-priced or over priced. That is one of the difficulties with being an intuitive, spontaneous, in-the-moment-artist I guess.

Most of all I pray I can win some awards and sell, because not only does it look good on my artist bio, my bank account needs a serious top up for art materials and all these entry fees. I'm on the look out for an 'emerging artist grant for a mature age person'!

  1. Hi Jan,
Gregs comments re. 'Dogs breakfast' must have had an inspirational affect on your creative efforts Dear daughter.
As a simple layman as far as art and depth of knowledge of art is concerned I cannot be an authoritative judge of your work so I wont give you marks out of 10 for each item . . . . I only know that this last lot shown here appeal to my layman's eye as beautiful and inspired and in the right type of setting, one would be proud to have them adorning ones walls.
Well done Dear Janet and good luck with the upcoming exhibitions. I will of course be with you for a wee while to share a show with you . . .get my 4 stringed beauty out ♫ ♫ ♫
    Love Dad
