Have you have ever wondered what goes through a visual artist’s mind, before they come up with an idea? Well here is a snippet. I may not follow this idea through, because there are always hundreds of others to choose from, but you never know!
The other night I was once again inspired by the TV show ‘The Voice.’ I noticed how the coaches chose a popular or well known song for each of the singers, a song that had already been sung really well by a famous singer. The singers had to rehearse it over and over until they could make it their own and sing it their own unique way. If they just simply sang it the same as the original, there would be no point and they could possibly be voted out because their own personality and style did not come through. Anyway, you can probably guess where I am going here.
What if I were to pick out a few famous paintings that I really love and believe that I have the skills to interpret and then put my unique, original, amazing, soulful, painterly strokes to work, so as to come up with something more than the original! The work of the famous artist would still need to be recognizable, just as the song is, but it will clearly have my own take on it.
I know it has all been done before, just as those famous songs will be sung by hundreds, maybe thousands of different singers, but it has not been done by moi! What would it look like? Would it have the wow-factor? Would it take the viewers breath away? Would it make people think about the original idea in a new way?
So I’ll let that idea float around in my head for a while and see what happens.........
