What I was getting at in my previous post, is how my circumstances have led me to let go of all the Christmas Festivities and trying to pull the family together in one place.
I really and truly was thinking...I don't want to know....I'm going to stick my head in the sand...better still lie on the sand with a beach towel over my head and maybe go for a swim...Christmas, go away!!
But, back to this TV cooking show. I heard a voice, I like to think it was the Spirit, calling me and saying, "Janet, you are missing something very important, something deeply spiritual, something that connects you to me and others, something that involves all the senses, something festive that marks the passage of time, something you can do, that will be deeply satisfying for you and those you share with and it will be remembered for ever. You can see why I sat up and listened!
So, to make a long story even longer, I decided I would cook up an amazing 4 course festive meal for Greg, my husband and Greg only, to celebrate his b'day on the 24th Dec and Christmas Day. He will have finished all the services by lunch time on the 25th, when he walks into our simply decorated house (no tree this year) with the smell of the best home cooked meal he's ever had from me and some beautiful Christmas music playing. All of this will keep him from collapsing in the armchair and falling asleep. I plan to play Silent Night on my Baritone Uke and sing...poor Greg, and then we'll be able to enjoy a simple, wholesome, festive, spiritually uplifting meal . You should see the menu! I feel really good about all this and I'm actually enjoying Christmas once again.
And that is what I think it is all about. Remembering the birth of Christ (if that is your belief)
Buying fresh and natural food. Enjoying the preparation, presentation and tasting of the food.
Sharing it all with at least one person you love, play a bit of music and then hold that memory in your heart till next year!
If all goes well and I don't burn the house down, I may extend my hospitality next year to more than Greg, but don't hold your breathe...I'm easing into this!
